Food - Glorious Food at The Beaton House

Food is a big part of life in The Beaton House. I have a love of food & I think it is very important that children are involved with food from a young age. Picking new food to try in the shop, looking at cookbooks deciding on a recipe and following the process from book to plate & getting involved in cooking it all. I, of course will promote healthy choices, however I don’t think that any food should be off the menu, I don’t want to make any food asperationel because its something they never have. I believe as long as you provide a wide range of healthy food children will generally make the right choices. I will where possible used eighthly sourced, fair trade, and sustainable, seasonal ingredients.

Most of the food we will eat is homemade, although I do use frozen/pre packaged food from time to time if I have time restrictions.

There is always a large fruit bowl that children have free access to, only restricted thirty or forty minute’s before a meal time.

Some of the foods we enjoy at Beaton House,

Breakfast

  • Porridge with Banana, honey & sprinkles (sprinkles is muesli, pumpkin seeds, etc)
  • Porridge with cinnamon and apple
  • A wide selection of cereal
  • French toast
  • Pancakes (American and english)
  • Cinnamon French toast
  • Dipping eggs with soldiers
  • Lunch

  • Sandwich – large varied selection of fillings the children will generally make their own.
  • Omelette – again a selection of fillings that the children get involved with.
  • Quesadillas – Mixed fillings
  • Mackrel or sardines on toast
  • Beans on toast
  • Cheese on toast
  • I will generally have fresh salad on offer, tomatoes, peppers, cucumber, carrots etc

Dinner – Generally the below are home made

    All of the basics like,

  • Pasta Bakes
  • Sheppard’s pie
  • Lasagne
  • Cottage Pie
  • Chicken & Chorizo with roast vegetables
  • Spaghetti Bolognese
  • Pizza
  • Sweet & sour chicken
  • Chicken or Pork schnitzel
  • Risotto
  • Sausages
  • Salmon fillets
  • Whole fish’s baked
  • Thai Chicken Curry
  • Casseroles
  • Roast dinner
  • Chicken nuggets
  • Fish fingers
  • Summer Salads (loaded with chicken, tuna etc)
  • I will also take your child to the fishmongers, talk about the fish, let them pick what we have, them bake it with them, I will do the same with the butchers and green grocers.

    Pudding

Generally fruit & yogurt, but I will also occasionally offer custard with Banana, possible ice cream or sorbet, rice pudding or semolina.

    Other things

We of course will make cakes, muffins, cookies, and all manor of other food for fun.

Most of the food we will eat is homemade, although I do use frozen/pre packaged food from time to time if I have time restrictions.

I offer a nice selection of food that children can get involved in, however I will not make food “to order” if your child wont eat something I will encourage them to try it but I will not go and make something else.

The above is in no way a complete list, your child will eat a wide verity of food at The Beaton House, and I don’t have set menus. Every day and week will be different and depend on the day we have.

I will take your child shopping with me and look at the different foods that are on offer. The supermarket is also great as they can make a list; look at values, and weights, colours, smells. For all ages of children it is a fun packed learning environment.

If you have any dietary requirements I will of course do my best to accommodate them.
